Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Field Trip

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008
Meet at 8:00 AM

Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is internationally known as a premier birding spot in the United States. It consists of over 9,000 acres of open bay, salt marsh, upland islands, brackish and freshwater ponds and the north and south gardens. This trip will be lead by Jason Wanaselja of Volunteers for Wildlife and Stella Miller of the Huntington Audubon Society.
Directions: Take Southern State Parkway to Cross Bay Boulevard south, exit 17S, then head south. After crossing the bridge, look for parking lot entrance on the right side 1 1/4 miles from the bridge. Turn right at the traffic light, meet in parking lot.

Ecofest & Tulip Festival

Visit VW's education animals on display at the Ecofest at Clark Gardens in Albertson, or at the Tulip Festival in Heckscher Park, Huntington (May 4th only).

Living with Wildlife on Long Island

Here is your chance to learn more about those commonly seen but seldom examined wild animals who call us neighbors. Pick up some tips on how to prevent some wild animals from becoming nuisances and also how to coexist peacefully with wildlife in your neighborhood. Learn what to do should you encounter an injured or sick wild animal. Meet some of our permanent resident animals in a live close encounter!
We request a donation of $3/VW member, $5/non-member for all CES presentations to cover costs for materials. These programs are presented at the Cold Spring Harbor Library on Rt. 25A. Sign up early! Call us at 631 423 0982 or email wildlifeadvisory@gmail.com.

International Migratory Bird Day

Garden Festival at SUNY Farmingdale

Saturday & Sunday, May 31st and June 1st, 2008

Garden Festival 2008 will be held at Farmingdale State College's beautiful four-acre Ornamental Horticulture Teaching Gardens. Admission is free. Visitors are invited to enter Garden Festival 2007 through the wrought-iron garden gates to buy plants and crafts, grab a snack, enjoy an expert-led tour of the magnificent gardens, attend gardening workshops and take home new ideas for your own garden.
